Margaret “Midge” Thomas Skilled Trades Scholarship
Established in 2025 in collaboration with Midge Thomas, the Margaret “Midge” Thomas Skilled Trades Scholarship aims to increase the representation of individuals of African descent in skilled trades. Through this initiative, the Gamma Iota Boulé Foundation is committed to providing financial support to deserving students with strong potential to excel in trades such as plumbing, automotive mechanics, HVAC, electrical work, and other vocational fields.
  • Demonstrate a clear aptitude and passion for skilled trades.
  • Be admitted and currently enrolled in an accredited trade training institution.
  • Have actively participated in community service during high school, reflecting a commitment to excellence.
  • Is a United States citizen or legal resident;
  • Attended high school in one of the following counties: Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, and Wayne.
  • Exhibit strong moral character and integrity.
The GIBF Advancement of Education Committee will evaluate candidates based on the above criteria. Final recommendations will be submitted to Margaret “Midge” Thomas or, on her behalf, to the GIBF Board of Trustees for approval.
Student selection will maintain gender diversity ratio (cumulative recipient demographic ratio for both female and male never below 30%) ($2,000 each)
